SELECTION

Humanoid or wheeled robot? Start with the task.

A robot’s form should follow the process. Compare two approaches to automation.

What needs to be moved?

If the task is to move a load on one floor, a transport robot is the reference point. If object manipulation and work at an existing workstation are required, assess other designs and the integration scope.

Distinguish a demonstration from a deployment

A humanoid can be compelling in a demonstration. Operational work requires measuring complete task success, cycle time and intervention frequency. A demonstration video is not a pilot result from your facility.

Compare the complete process

Combine device, support, site preparation and downtime costs. Include loading, unloading and charging. Equal stated payload does not imply comparable use.

Decide after the trial

Choose one task, set success criteria and test under representative conditions. Leaving the process unchanged can also be a valid outcome of the analysis.
