Split costs into three groups
The first group is planned costs: inspections, training and support. The second covers consumption and parts. The third arises from failures: diagnosis, transport, repair and process interruption. Calculate each group separately.
Count people’s time
Charging, workstation preparation and supervision may require an operator. Measure these activities during the pilot. Freed-up team time does not always become equivalent cash savings.
Include a more difficult scenario
Alongside a normal month, model one with downtime. Enter your own parts lead time, fallback process cost and transport cost. Do not assign a failure probability without data.
Collect data from day one
Record operating hours, interventions and expenditure for each device. After several periods, compare the budget with actual figures and assess which items to stock.
